Leona’s debut album Spirit has gone straight in at the top of the American album charts! Not only is she first British female to achieve such an amazing feat, but she is the first British artist in history to debut at number one!

Selling a massive 204,841 copies in one week, Sprit outsold the number two (Troubadour by Straight George) and three (Sunset Man by Otto James) albums by an impressive 88,256.

This phenomenal result comes just two weeks after her first single ‘Bleeding Love’ went in at number one, making her the first British female vocalist to take the number one single spot in an almighty 21 years.

Having dropped a few places last week, ‘Bleeding Love’ returned to the number one spot this week which means that Leona has done the unthinkable and bagged a double whammy of chart topping success in the States; a notoriously hard market to crack.

Simon Cowell has commented, ‘What Leona has achieved is simply incredible. This is the hardest market to crack and for her debut album to go in at number 1 is unbelievable.’

Leona will continue on her path to conquering the US when she appears on hit show American Idol on 23rd April.

Performing her monster hit ‘Bleeding Love’ she will take to the stage on the American version of the show that propelled her to superstardom just over one year ago.

News just in! While Spirit has gone Platinum in Switzerland and Gold in Austria, Germany, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand, ‘Bleeding Love’ is still reigning supreme at number one in the European airplay and singles charts.

The single also remains in the top five in Belgium, Czech, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Netherlands, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland and South Africa and was the highest mover in the US airplay chart last week. Woo hoo!

Hot on the heels of her very first #1 US single, Leona is staying in the US this week and will popping up all over the country doing promotion.

First up is Good Morning America this Friday where she will perform two songs with a live band. Then next Monday Leona will be appearing on MTV’s TRL.

Tuesday 8th April sees Leona release Spirit in the US and to mark the occasion she will be appearing on Regis & Kelly where she will be performing two tracks before going on to appear on the Tyra Banks show.

On Thursday she will record her appearance on the Ellen show which will be broadcast the very next day, and on the Friday Leona will perform two tracks on the Jimmy Kimmel show.

Leona was delighted to win a prize at last week’s Capital Awards.

She was named London’s Favourite UK Female Artist after weeks of voting by Capital FM listeners - thank you to everyone for their incredible support!

Leona’s double A-side ‘Better in Time / Footprints in the Sand’ hits the shelves on Monday and to support its release and the work she’s doing for Sport Relief, Leona will be on GMTV next Monday and Tuesday.

As part of a special Sport Relief segment, the GMTV crew followed Leona while in South Africa visiting families living with HIV/Aids. The heart wrenching report sees Leona meet the truly inspirational people that will benefit from the aid that Sport Relief raises.
